Why we play
Every goal helps Glen Avon Youth Hockey
The Classic is hosted by Cold As Puck Hockey as a fundraiser for Glen Avon Youth Hockey. Registration fees, merch sales and sponsor support all go back to the kids who learn the game on these same outdoor rinks.
Come for the hockey, stay for the bonfire talk, and know your entry fee is keeping the next generation of Duluth skaters on the ice.

Good to know
Is my sponsorship tax-deductible?
Most businesses deduct event sponsorships as an advertising or marketing expense, since your name and logo are promoted to players and fans.
The Classic is hosted by Cold As Puck Hockey, a private company, so a payment made to us is not a charitable donation, even though the proceeds go to Glen Avon Youth Hockey. If you would rather give a charitable gift, ask us about giving directly to Glen Avon Hockey Club, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
Every business is different, so please check with your tax advisor.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How many games does each team get?
Every team is guaranteed 3 games. Each game is three 15-minute periods of running time. The top 4 teams in each division play on into Sunday's playoffs.
How do teams make the playoffs?
Pool games are worth 3 points for a win, 2 for a tie and 1 for a loss. The top 4 teams in each division by points make Sunday's semifinals (1 vs 4, 2 vs 3), and the winners play for the championship at 11:00 AM. If teams are tied on points, the team with more goals scored moves on. Playoff games that end tied go to a shootout.
See the Schedule page for live standings and brackets.
What if the weather is bad?
It's outdoor hockey, so we play through the cold. The only things that will cancel the event are a major snowstorm or melting ice.
What are the divisions?
There are two divisions: Open and 40 Plus.
We have a team, but no goalie. What can we do?
Please contact the organizer and we will try to connect you with a goalie.
How big can our roster be?
Teams can carry up to 15 players. Games are 5-on-5 with goalies on a full sheet of ice.
Where is the tournament?
At the Glen Avon Rinks, 2403 Woodland Avenue, Duluth, MN. Games run Friday through Sunday, February 5–7, 2027.
